Collected data
Categories are the App Store's own. Google Play groups the same information differently; where the wording differs, it is noted on the entry.

A crash report carries the state of the app at the moment it stopped, not the contents of your records. It is sent only if you agree at the prompt that follows a crash, and declining it does not change anything else. Google Play describes the same thing under Crash logs. |
| LocationPrecise Location · Coarse Location | Data Not Collected The app reads your location to stamp a record and writes the coordinates into that record on the device. Nothing is transmitted, so there is nothing collected. This entry stays on the page rather than being left off it, because an absent category reads as an oversight. |

Required
Files and folders
Exports are written to a folder you choose, and an exported notebook can be opened again from one. Without it the export has nowhere to go, which is why this is the one permission the app cannot work around.

Optional
The app runs without these. Each one is asked for at the moment it is needed, not on first launch.
Camera
Photographs taken in the app are attached to the record you are writing and stay on the device with it. The camera is never opened on its own, and there is no background capture.

Notifications
Reminders for a survey you have left open. They are scheduled on the device by the app itself, so nothing about the survey leaves the phone to remind you about it.

Precise location
A record can be stamped with where it was made. The coordinates are written into the record on the device and are not sent anywhere; clearing them from a record removes them.
